Bunny portrait sessions from March 20-28!

Pictured here are the precious babies that were delivered to us earlier today by Laura from The Bunny Barn. Their mother, Dottie, was one of our babies bunnies 2 years ago, and she is accompanying them, as they are very, very small and fragile, but oh so soft, cute, and cuddly. Right now they like to sleep together as a group to keep warm.

The LIttle "Monsters" on Halloween

My costume is usually one of a disappointed Phillies fan, but I was glad to concede that outfit this year! Even though I missed the parade that day, I listened to it on internet radio waiting for the trick-or-treaters. Way to go Phillies!

My Class Reunion (BHS Class of 1983)

25 Years...25 Years...25 Years???????? Ugh! Oh well. We had our class reunion in August and it was a lot of fun to see a lot of some of my classmates that I haven't seen in a really long time.

I moved away from my home town of Biglerville, PA for good a little over 10 years ago. It's fun to go back and visit, as well as rent the old studio where I used to work (Ziegler Studio in Gettysburg) to do a little commerce during the late Summer. Outdoor Fall Family Portrait time is almost here!

It's that time of the year again. Summer is winding down, the kids are back to school, there's a slight chill in the air (some days...) and the leaves are going to turn what could be a very depressing time of the year into one of the most beautiful displays of Mother Nature, giving us a feeling of joy before it gets cold and gray for months.

This is the time of the year when we shed the air-conditioned studio for a couple weekends and enoy the brisk Fall weather.

We will be 'parked' outdoors for a few days this Fall so that families can create a visually stunning portrait of their family and children that will be cherished for a lifetime. On October 18, 19, and 25th we have a limited number of sessions for families in the park. On October 18 we will be at Playwicki Park, on October 19th we will be at beautiful Bucks County Community College, and then on October 25th we will be back at Playwicki Park.

Since we will be outdoor waiting for you to come to us, we are cutting our normal outdoor session fee nearly in half for these sessions on these days to only $39!

We are not offering these sessions to the general public - only for past clients and their friends and family. If you know of someone who you think would like to have a beautiful casual family portrait taken this Fall, please pass this alone, as we are not doing a mass mailing to the general public - just our friends.

Summer was fun!

I've certainly neglected the blog this Summer, but here are a few images from what I've been up to:

We went to Baltimore for a couple games so Brock could see his favorite baseball team, the Detroit Tigers, play Stephanie's favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles. It was a little bit contradictory as I took a photograph of Brock sitting on the Orioles' dugout wearing a Tigers hat and Orioles shirt during the stadium tour before the game. He's conflicted.

Brock really enjoyed when the Tigers went up 6-0 in the first inning, but Steph had the last laugh as the Orioles' Ramon Hernandez crushed a 10th-inning walk-off homer into Eutaw Street. Did I ever mention that Brock has a temper and hates to lose?

We were also able to get away to Las Vegas for a few days and visit family and friends in Gettysburg for a short time. I can honestly say that I had a lot of fun this summer. As always, it went way too fast.

Cecelia has been coming to the studio for 2 years now and finally decided to give us a recorded smile. My guess is that she doesn't find me very amusing. It took her mommy to say "Beat it!" to crack her. Believe me, it was nothing I said or did - I only know whoopie cushions and raspberries. works like a charm on little boys...

Sports, sports, and more sports!

We're branching out to new markets! We are starting a new business to serve a new market for which we have a lot of experience, the sports market. When I first got out of photography school I started out in the Public Relations department at Gettysburg College and I had the opportunity to work with one of the legends in Division III sports information, Robert Kenworthy. He gave me the opportunity to photograph all the sports at Gettysburg College while I was there, and shortly thereafter had me do all the photography for the football program and press releases. I have kept that job providing the team and player photos for the football program for 19 years, even though I am now almost 3 hours away.We have been photographing other teams and posed player photos since then and have recently decided to take on more of that type of work. Along with the standard posed photographs, we have been photographing action, as well, which is where I began my career. With all the technological advances in the cameras and lenses, it is quite enjoyable to do this.
The photos attached are some I took of my boys, Connor and Brock. Connor really began to blossom this year into a good pole-vaulter, taking 4th place in the Junior High Berks County Championships. Brock is shown here digging for first after the game-winning RBI single.(or so I will have you believe...)
We have a brand new way of working with leagues that is stress-free for the organizers, and also enables parents to see the photos of their children first before purchasing. In the past couple weeks we set up our studio pond for our "Gone Fishin'" set and our Western scene for "Cowboys and Cowgirls." I had a great time with the kids and they had a good time playing in the elaborate sets.Our current set is the "Take Me out to The Ballgame" nostalgic baseball field. We have old-style uniforms for children up to 4 years of age.

John S. "Moc" Toggas

John S. "Moc" Toggas, 50, lost his life in an accident on April 19, 2008. "Moc" was the son of John and Mary Jane Toggas of Gettysburg and the brother of my wife, Stephanie.

John taught physical education at Parkland High School and coached wrestling for 20 years where he produced four state champions and numerous state qualifiers and great wrestlers.He was well respected by his former wrestlers and opposing wrestlers and coaches, as well as his peers and friends, as was evidenced by more than 1,000 people combined showing up for his funeral services over two days. John was a graduate of Gettysburg High School and East Stroudsburg University.

John's wedding to his wife, Monica on June 14, 2002 was one of the last weddings I ever photographed. It was a lovely outdoor affair held at his farmhouse in Mertztown, PA held for only close friends and family. John loved his family, especially his two children, Matt and Samantha. He loved his family in a manner that I can only admire. He was a tough man, but he had no reservations about letting his feelings show. I learned many things about how he lived his life last week, heard some great stories, and cried a lot for losing him and for feeling the pain of those who were really close to him who needed him in thier lives. My wife lost a brother, a great friend, and the person she could always count on whenever she had a tough time with something and needed an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. He was her "rock" and he can never be replaced.

My small post here doesn't begin to do justice to the kind of person you were and how loved you were.

We will all miss you, Moc. More than you could have imagined.

Why do I have a blog?

Good question. Who would care about what our studio blog has to offer? I used to think it was just photographers yapping about what they thought and had secret aspirations of being writers. For some, maybe. I recently attended a workshop where the whole thing was laid out to me like I was a second-grader. Now I get it. It's more interactive than our site. I can get feedback from you, my consumer, peer, or unknown interested party. I can announce upcoming specials, promotions, or studio closings without having to spend a fortune on mailers - yes, I have spent at least a full college tuition on marketing materials and postage. Maybe not Ivy League, but some college somewhere...
Oh, and I get to post some images from recent sessions that I either love or found really ridiculous. And, for those who care, I can let you in on what I do on the off-hours. There seem to be fewer of those than ever, though, so there won't be too much of that.
